Summary

A flaw was found in Open Asset Import Library Assimp. A heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the `AddBonesToNodeGraph_3DGS_MDL7` function within the Node Parser component.

This flaw can be triggered remotely by manipulating the `bones_num` argument. Successful exploitation could lead to memory corruption, potentially resulting in a denial of service or other unspecified impacts.

This vulnerability in the Assimp library, affecting its MDL file importer, is a remote heap-based buffer overflow. Successful exploitation requires user interaction, as an attacker must entice a user to open or process a specially crafted MDL file.

This limits the immediate impact on Red Hat products, which typically rely on user-initiated file processing for such libraries. Red Hat severity: Moderate — CVSS 6.3 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L).
