Summary

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Validate node_id in arena_alloc_pages() arena_alloc_pages() accepts a plain int node_id and forwards it through the entire allocation chain without any bounds checking.

The `arena_alloc_pages()` function within the Berkeley Packet Filter (BPF) subsystem does not properly validate the `node_id` parameter. A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability by supplying an invalid `node_id`, which is then used without bounds checking during memory allocation.

This could lead to memory corruption, potentially resulting in a denial of service or other system instability. The default Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernel prevents unprivileged users from being able to use eBPF by the kernel.unprivileged_bpf_disabled sysctl.

This would require a privileged user with CAP_SYS_ADMIN or root to be able to abuse this flaw reducing its attack space. Red Hat severity: Moderate — CVSS 6.4 (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H).

Weakness: CWE-839. Affected Red Hat products: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.

Red Hat does not currently list a fixing RHSA for this CVE.

Affected products named by the advisory: Red Hat package: kernel-rt.
