Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: platform/wmi: use generic driver_override infrastructure When a driver is probed through __driver_attach(), the bus' match() callback is called without the device lock held, thus accessing the driver_override field without a lock, which can cause a UAF.
Fix this by using the driver-core driver_override infrastructure taking care of proper locking internally. A vulnerability exists where a driver's `match()` function can access memory after it has been freed (Use-After-Free), due to improper locking during driver probing.
This could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause the system to crash, leading to a denial of service. Red Hat severity: not rated.
Weakness: CWE-413. Red Hat lists Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 as not affected.
