Summary

Previously, after a channel has been established, a malicious peer could send crafted messages that would deadlock the entire connection. Now, we handle all RFC 4254 channel messages; global requests are handled explicitly.

Then, treat all other messages as a protocol error and tear the connection down instead of buffering and blocking. A flaw was found in golang.org/x/crypto/ssh.

This could lead to a deadlock of the entire connection, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS) for the affected system. This vulnerability does not affect confidentiality or integrity.

Red Hat rates this issue as Moderate because the demonstrated availability impact is limited to the affected connection. Red Hat severity: Moderate — CVSS 5.3 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L).

Weakness: CWE-833.
