Summary

pypdf is a free and open-source pure-python PDF library. Prior to 6.14.0, an attacker can craft a PDF with declared image size values that are much too large compared to the actual data, causing large memory usage in pypdf image parsing.

This issue is fixed in version 6.14.0. Moderate: A flaw in the pypdf library allows an attacker to craft a malicious PDF with oversized image declarations, leading to excessive memory consumption during parsing.

This could result in a denial of service on systems processing untrusted PDF files. Red Hat severity: Moderate — CVSS 5.3 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L).

Weakness: CWE-770. Affected Red Hat products: Exploit Intelligence; OpenShift Lightspeed; Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform 2; Red Hat Enterprise Linux AI (RHEL AI) 3; Red Hat OpenShift AI (RHOAI); Red Hat Quay 3.

Red Hat does not currently list a fixing RHSA for this CVE.
