Alert me about Red Hat Linux Linux Kernel

Summary

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Input: elan_i2c - validate firmware size before use Ensure that the firmware file is large enough to contain the expected number of pages and the signature (which resides at the end of the firmware blob) before accessing them to prevent potential out-of-bounds reads.

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Elan I2C touchpad driver. This vulnerability allows a local user to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by triggering a system crash.

The issue occurs because the driver does not verify that a firmware file is sufficiently large before attempting to access its data pages and trailing signature. By supplying a malformed or undersized firmware image, an attacker can trigger an out-of-bounds memory read.

Red Hat severity: Low — CVSS 5.5 (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H). Weakness: CWE-125.

Affected Red Hat products: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9. Red Hat does not currently list a fixing RHSA for this CVE.

Affected products named by the advisory: Red Hat package: kernel-rt.
