Summary

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: i2c: alvium: fix critical pointer access in alvium_ctrl_init The current implementation of alvium_ctrl_init creates several controls in function alvium_ctrl_init and uses the returned pointer without check. That can cause write access over NULL-pointer for several controls.

The reworked code checks the pointers before adding flags. The `alvium_ctrl_init` function, responsible for initializing controls, does not properly check if pointers are valid before using them.

This can lead to the system attempting to write data to an invalid memory location, which could allow a local attacker to cause a system crash and result in a denial of service. Red Hat severity: not rated.

Weakness: CWE-476. Red Hat lists Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 as not affected.
