Summary
A flaw was found in eldap, a component of Erlang/OTP. A malicious or compromised Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) server could exploit this vulnerability by returning a referral Uniform Resource Locator (URL) with an excessively long port number.
This unbounded port component is then processed by the eldap:parse_port/2 function, leading to a significant increase in processing time due to arbitrary-precision arithmetic. This can degrade the availability of the affected system, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).
Red Hat severity: Moderate — CVSS 5.3 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L). Weakness: CWE-1284.
Affected Red Hat products: Red Hat Hardened Images. Red Hat does not currently list a fixing RHSA for this CVE.

Mitigation checklist
- To mitigate this issue, ensure that applications utilizing the eldap component are configured to connect only to trusted LDAP servers. Additionally, if possible, configure applications to disable or restrict the processing of LDAP referral URLs from untrusted sources, as the vulnerability requires an application to explicitly pass server-supplied referral strings to eldap for parsing.
