Summary
A flaw was found in the CAN BCM (Controller Area Network Broadcast Manager) module of the Linux kernel. A race condition exists where a socket intended for a specific CAN interface can silently be reconfigured to receive messages from any interface.
This occurs due to inconsistent reads of socket binding parameters while other operations are modifying them. This could lead to unintended information disclosure or bypass of network segmentation.
Additionally, a related issue allows `bcm_rx_setup()` to silently report success even if the target device is unavailable, potentially leading to a denial of service for receive operations. Red Hat severity: Moderate — CVSS 5.5 (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H).
Weakness: CWE-367. Affected Red Hat products: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.
Will not fix / out of support: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. Red Hat does not currently list a fixing RHSA for this CVE.
Affected products named by the advisory: Red Hat package: kernel-rt.
