Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: batman-adv: frag: fix primary_if leak on failed linearization If the skb has a frag_list, it must be linearized before it can be split using skb_split(). But when this step failed, it must not only free the skb but also take care of the reference to the already found primary_if.
This vulnerability occurs during the processing of network packets that have fragmented data. Specifically, if a packet's fragmented data fails a preparation step called linearization, a reference to a network interface (`primary_if`) is not properly released, leading to a memory leak.
This issue could potentially be exploited by a local attacker to cause resource exhaustion, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS) for the system. Red Hat severity: Moderate — CVSS 5.5 (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H).
Weakness: CWE-911. Red Hat lists Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 as not affected.
