Summary

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfs: Fix folio state after ENOMEM whilst under writeback iteration Fix the state of the current folio when ENOMEM occurs during writeback iteration. The folio needs to be redirtied and unlocked before the terminal writeback_iter() is invoked.

This vulnerability occurs when the system runs out of memory during a data write operation, leading to an incorrect state for the affected memory pages (folios). An attacker could potentially trigger this condition, which may cause the system to become unstable or unresponsive, resulting in a denial of service (DoS).

The fix ensures that these memory pages are properly managed to prevent such issues. Red Hat severity: Moderate — CVSS 5.5 (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H).

Weakness: CWE-413. Affected Red Hat products: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10.

Red Hat does not currently list a fixing RHSA for this CVE.
