Summary

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) timer component. An unprivileged local user with access to the /dev/snd/timer and /dev/snd/seq devices can exploit a race condition where a timer instance's SNDRV_TIMER_IFLG_DEAD flag is not properly cleared after closing.

This can lead to a use-after-free vulnerability, allowing the user to trigger a system crash and cause a denial of service. Red Hat severity: Important — CVSS 7 (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H).

Weakness: CWE-825. Affected Red Hat products: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.

Red Hat does not currently list a fixing RHSA for this CVE.

Affected products named by the advisory: Red Hat package: kernel-rt.
