Summary

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel, specifically within its nexthop component responsible for network routing. A timing issue, known as a race condition, allows the system to access memory after it has been freed.

This occurs when the kernel attempts to flush its routing cache while other operations are simultaneously modifying IPv6 routes. An attacker could potentially exploit this vulnerability to cause a system crash, leading to a denial of service, or in some cases, execute unauthorized code.

Red Hat severity: Moderate — CVSS 5.5 (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H). Weakness: CWE-825.

Affected Red Hat products: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. Red Hat does not currently list a fixing RHSA for this CVE.

Affected products named by the advisory: Red Hat package: kernel.
