Summary
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: xsk: validate metadata when processing requests The zero-copy path validates TX metadata while obtaining the descriptor context, then reads it again later when preparing the hardware request. User space can change the metadata between those operations and bypass the original validation.
Validate the metadata in xsk_tx_metadata_request() and use the resulting flags snapshot for every feature check. Read request fields once so all zero-copy drivers process only values observed after successful validation.
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's xsk (AF_XDP sockets) component. This vulnerability allows a local user to bypass security validation by modifying transmission (TX) metadata after it has been initially checked but before it is used to prepare hardware requests.
This could lead to unexpected system behavior or potentially impact data integrity. Red Hat severity: Moderate — CVSS 5.5 (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H).
Weakness: CWE-367. Affected Red Hat products: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.
Will not fix / out of support: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. Red Hat does not currently list a fixing RHSA for this CVE.
Affected products named by the advisory: Red Hat package: kernel-rt.
