Summary
A flaw was found in mce-operator-bundle. The build process fetches and executes scripts from a remote repository without performing integrity checks, such as commit pinning or signature verification.
This allows a malicious actor with write access to the remote repository to inject and execute arbitrary code during the build. The consequence is a compromised build process, potentially leading to the distribution of malicious software.
The build logic is fetched from a mutable master branch without integrity checks or commit pinning, allowing for the execution of untrusted code if the source repository is compromised. This could impact the integrity of delivered Red Hat products.
Red Hat severity: Important — CVSS 7.7 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:H/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N). Weakness: CWE-829.
Affected Red Hat products: Multicluster Engine for Kubernetes. Red Hat does not currently list a fixing RHSA for this CVE.

Mitigation checklist
- The vulnerability resides within the build process of `mce-operator-bundle`, specifically concerning the fetching of build logic from a mutable source without integrity verification. As this issue pertains to the build-time integrity of the software, there are no direct runtime configuration or operational controls available for users to mitigate this vulnerability in deployed Red Hat products.
