Summary

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) FireWire Control Protocol (FCP) subsystem. This vulnerability allows a local attacker to trigger the copying of uninitialized kernel memory to userspace.

By sending a specially crafted short or zero-length data stage during the FCP initialization, an attacker could potentially read sensitive information from the kernel's memory. Red Hat severity: Moderate — CVSS 4.5 (CVSS:3.1/AV:P/AC:H/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:H).

Weakness: CWE-908.
