Summary

Chroma 1.5.9 fails to validate maximum bounds on HNSW index parameters max_neighbors, ef_construction, and ef_search in collection-create requests. Unauthenticated attackers can supply arbitrarily large parameter values to exhaust server memory and cause denial of service during index compaction.

A flaw was found in Chroma. Unauthenticated attackers can exploit this vulnerability by providing excessively large parameters during collection creation.

Red Hat severity: Important — CVSS 7.5 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H). Weakness: CWE-1284.

Affected Red Hat products: Multicluster Global Hub; Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management for Kubernetes 2; Red Hat OpenShift GitOps; Red Hat OpenStack Platform 18.0. Red Hat lists Red Hat Hardened Images as not affected.
