Summary
A flaw was found in libxml2. A NULL pointer dereference vulnerability exists in the `xmlRegNewParserCtxt` function within the `xmlregexp` component.
This occurs because the `strlen()` function is called on a potentially NULL pointer, `ret->string`, before a check for a failed memory allocation by `xmlStrdup()`. A local attacker could exploit this by triggering an `xmlStrdup` failure, leading to a denial of service (DoS) due to a process crash.
Red Hat severity: Low — CVSS 2.9 (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L). Weakness: CWE-476.
Affected Red Hat products: Red Hat Hardened Images. Red Hat does not currently list a fixing RHSA for this CVE.
