High [CVE-2026-71491] Denial of Service via quadratic CPU consumption in comment grouping
CVE-2026-71491Source published Source updated
sqlparse is a non-validating SQL parser module for Python. Prior to 0.6.0, group_comments in sqlparse/engine/grouping.py repeatedly rescans comment-only statements before the MAX_GROUPING_TOKENS guard, causing quadratic CPU consumption through sqlparse.parse() and sqlparse.format(sql, strip_comments=True). This issue is fixed in version 0.6.0. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by providing specially crafted SQL input that contains numerous comment-only statements. This could cause the `group_comments` function to repeatedly rescan these statements, leading to excessive CPU consumption and a Denial of Service (DoS) for the application using the parser. Red Hat severity: Important — CVSS 7.5 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H). Weakness: CWE-1050.
