Medium [CVE-2026-72012] Call synchronize_rcu when unregistering
CVE-2026-72012Source published Source updated
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tracing/osnoise: Call synchronize_rcu() when unregistering This ensures that any RCU readers traversing the instance list have finished, before releasing the reference on the tracer that the instance points to. When unregistering a tracer instance, the system failed to call `synchronize_rcu()`, a mechanism for synchronizing read-copy-update (RCU) operations. This oversight could allow RCU readers to access memory that has already been freed, potentially leading to a use-after-free vulnerability. A local attacker could exploit this to cause a denial of service or potentially achieve arbitrary code execution. Red Hat severity: Moderate — CVSS 5.5 (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H).
