High [CVE-2026-72066] Bound hotplug states sysfs output
CVE-2026-72066Source published Source updated
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cpu: hotplug: Bound hotplug states sysfs output states_show() adds CPU hotplug state names into a single sysfs buffer using sprintf(). With enough registered states, this can write past the end of the PAGE_SIZE buffer. Use sysfs_emit_at() so output is bounded. A flaw was found in the Linux kernel, specifically within the CPU hotplug feature. This vulnerability occurs because the `states_show()` function, which displays CPU hotplug state information, does not correctly limit the size of its output. An attacker could exploit this by providing a large number of registered states, causing the function to write beyond its allocated memory buffer. This uncontrolled write could lead to a system crash (denial of service) or…
