High [CVE-2024-1753] Buildah: buildah: container escape via improper bind mount validation

A flaw was found in Buildah (and subsequently Podman Build) which allows containers to mount arbitrary locations on the host filesystem into build containers. A malicious Containerfile can use a dummy image with a symbolic link to the root filesystem as a mount source and cause the mount operation to mount the host root filesystem inside the RUN step. The commands inside the RUN step will then have read-write access to the host filesystem, allowing for full container escape at build time. Red Hat has rated this vulnerability as Important rather than Critical because successful exploitation requires user interaction to process a maliciously crafted Containerfile. Additionally, default security hardening in Red Hat Enterprise Linux—specifically SELinux running in Enforcing mode—prevents unauthorized write access to host system files, restricting the potential breakout primarily to unauthorized read operations. Environments where container builds are executed with elevated host permissions against untrusted source definitions face the highest risk. Red Hat severity: Important — CVSS 8.6 (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H). Weakness: CWE-59.

High [CVE-2024-1635] out-of-memory error after several closed connections with wildfly-http-client protocol

A vulnerability was found in Undertow. This vulnerability impacts a server that supports the wildfly-http-client protocol. Whenever a malicious user opens and closes a connection with the HTTP port of the server and then closes the connection immediately, the server will end with both memory and open file limits exhausted at some point, depending on the amount of memory available. At HTTP upgrade to remoting, the WriteTimeoutStreamSinkConduit leaks connections if RemotingConnection is closed by Remoting ServerConnectionOpenListener. Because the remoting connection originates in Undertow as part of the HTTP upgrade, there is an external layer to the remoting connection. This connection is unaware of the outermost layer when closing the connection during the connection opening procedure. Hence, the Undertow WriteTimeoutStreamSinkConduit is not notified of the closed connection in this scenario. Because WriteTimeoutStreamSinkConduit creates a timeout task, the whole dependency tree leaks via that task, which is added to XNIO WorkerThread. So, the workerThread points to the Undertow conduit, which contains the connections and causes the leak. This is rated as Important due to the fact that this might be an unauthenticated remote issue exploited by a malicious user, causing a denial of service (DoS) to the affected server.

High [CVE-2024-1485] decompress can delete files outside scope via relative paths

A flaw was found in the decompression function of registry-support. This issue can be triggered if an unauthenticated remote attacker tricks a user into parsing a devfile which uses the `parent` or `plugin` keywords. This could download a malicious archive and cause the cleanup process to overwrite or delete files outside of the archive, which should not be allowed. Red Hat Openshift has a "Low" rated impact due to the affected code being shipped, but unused. Red Hat severity: Important — CVSS 8 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:N/I:H/A:H). Weakness: CWE-22. Affected Red Hat products: OpenShift Developer Tools and Services; Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4. Will not fix / out of support: OpenShift Developer Tools and Services. High [CVE-2024-21626] runc container breakout through process.cwd trickery and leaked fds

runc is a CLI tool for spawning and running containers on Linux according to the OCI specification. In runc 1.1.11 and earlier, due to an internal file descriptor leak, an attacker could cause a newly-spawned container process (from runc exec) to have a working directory in the host filesystem namespace, allowing for a container escape by giving access to the host filesystem ("attack 2"). The same attack could be used by a malicious image to allow a container process to gain access to the host filesystem through runc run ("attack 1"). Variants of attacks 1 and 2 could be also be used to overwrite semi-arbitrary host binaries, allowing for complete container escapes ("attack 3a" and "attack 3b"). runc 1.1.12 includes patches for this issue. While a user performs `O_CLOEXEC` all file descriptors before executing the container code, the file descriptor is open when performing `setcwd(2)`, which means that the reference can be kept alive in the container by configuring the working directory to be a path resolved through the file descriptor. The non-dumpable bit is unset after `execve`, meaning there are multiple ways to attack this other than bad configurations. The only way to defend against it entirely is to close all unneeded file descriptors.

High [CVE-2023-52355] tiffrasterscanlinesize64 produce too-big size and could cause oom

An out-of-memory flaw was found in libtiff that could be triggered by passing a crafted tiff file to the TIFFRasterScanlineSize64() API. This flaw allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service via a crafted input with a size smaller than 379 KB. Primarily, the exploit requires the crafted input to be smaller than 379 KB, imposing a limitation on the potential impact and reducing the likelihood of successful exploitation in practical scenarios. Furthermore, the nature of the vulnerability is limited to denial-of-service attacks, which, although disruptive, do not inherently pose a direct risk of data compromise or system compromise. However, it's important to acknowledge that denial-of-service attacks can still have significant operational implications, particularly in environments reliant on continuous availability. High [CVE-2023-5981 +1] Gnutls: incomplete fix for CVE-2023-5981

A vulnerability was found in GnuTLS. The response times to malformed ciphertexts in RSA-PSK ClientKeyExchange differ from the response times of ciphertexts with correct PKCS#1 v1.5 padding. This issue may allow a remote attacker to perform a timing side-channel attack in the RSA-PSK key exchange, potentially leading to the leakage of sensitive data. CVE-2024-0553 is designated as an incomplete resolution for CVE-2023-5981. The identified vulnerability in the GnuTLS library, designated as CVE-2024-0553, presents a moderate severity concern due to its potential for facilitating timing side-channel attacks in RSA-PSK ciphersuites. While the flaw allows for the exploitation of timing differentials during the key exchange process, enabling attackers to infer sensitive data, its impact is constrained by several factors. Firstly, successful exploitation requires precise timing measurements and sophisticated analysis techniques, posing a significant barrier to entry for potential attackers. Additionally, the effectiveness of the attack is contingent on environmental factors such as network latency and system load, further limiting its practical feasibility. Red Hat severity: Moderate — CVSS 7.5 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N). Weakness: CWE-203.

High [CVE-2023-6563] Keycloak: offline session token dos

An unconstrained memory consumption vulnerability was discovered in Keycloak. It can be triggered in environments which have millions of offline tokens (> 500,000 users with each having at least 2 saved sessions). If an attacker creates two or more user sessions and then open the "consents" tab of the admin User Interface, the UI attempts to load a huge number of offline client sessions leading to excessive memory and CPU consumption which could potentially crash the entire system. While this vulnerability can enable complete compromise of system availability, it is not possible to be triggered in every environment. The impact is rated as Important due to several preconditions (number of users and how many sessions each user has) which are beyond an attacker's control.
